For the past 10 years, Busboys and Poets has welcomed local and regional visual artists to exhibit at its locations. The mixtures of art in these spaces question, explore, enlighten and share a vision of social issues and beauty. It’s the Busboys’ aesthetic!
The Busboys and Artomatic Art Exhibition will be spread across all six locations and be on display from September 27 thru January 9th, 2016. We are encouraging submissions in three categories: 2-D images, selected 3-D works that do not require floor space, (i.e., can be placed on ledges or bookshelves, etc.) and location specific installations. The exhibition is open to artists from the DC metropolitan area, inclusive of Virginia and Maryland who have previously participated in Artomatic events in 2009, 2012 and 2013.
WORK TO BE CONSIDERED
2-D images must come ready to hang with wire.
3-D works that do not require floor space inside will be considered for indoor display and large 3D work to be displayed outside will be considered if the work is able to endure extreme weather conditions may not pose any safety concerns for visitors. Please recognize that outdoor installations are limited.
Installations are highly encouraged. If your piece is site specific, please make it clear in your submission. We highly recommend that artists research locations.

Please submit 7-10 images of your work for consideration. Proposals (for works to be made), pre-existing works and video may be entered for the exhibition. Assistance with submissions is available by email request.
Artists are solely responsible for delivery and installation of their accepted work on the installation date and removal on the pick-up date. Artists are expected to install their artwork. All work accepted must be ready to hang and equipped with wire on the back of the artwork or other materials necessary for an installation. There will be ladders at each location. The work must remain on display for the full duration of the show. Busboys and Poets will not receive shipments of artwork.
Please note that all artwork must be installed at opening between (7 am and 9 am) or closing (11 pm to 1 am) of the restaurants.
Artwork will be selected by the Curator in Residence at Busboys and Poets.

Please include the following information in your submission proposal:
● For each image include title, media, size, date and potential price to be offered for sale.
● Include artist bio and statement
● For installations (indoors or outdoors): Please describe the physical aspects of the project (site, materials, positioning, etc.) in the description of the proposed work.
● If you are proposing a new piece that is not represented in your images, please include one or more illustrations of the work that will give the curator a clear idea of the work being proposed, what it will look like, and how it will be constructed and installed.
● Video artists should submit at least two examples of their work.
Submit all still images with a resolution of 300 dpi and a maximum of 2MB each. Video files are limited to at most 50MB each (about five minutes).
Busboys and Poets does not take commissions from the sales of artwork. Potential buyers contact the artist directly to purchase and delivery of artwork.
