Artist Interview: Roger James

Who are you and how long have you been an artist?
I am Roger James I’ve been an artist for as long as I can remember

What medium(s) do you work in & why?
Oil mostly. I also do computer illustrations

What is your creative process like?
Find subjects I want to portray on canvas or bring back to life on canvas

What is the best art-related advice you’ve received?
No one should know your work better than you do.

What is the biggest challenge you face as an artist?
Afraid of stepping out of my comfort zone and failure

The Chuck Brown painting I did. It was the chance for me to study on the many different periods of Mr. Brown in regards to his life. I learned to study his mannerisms with the call and response he had with the audience and his love for the go-go sound he established in the DMV area. I also learned about his humble beginnings as a child selling newspapers and the many struggles he had getting his music to the masses. Didn’t know he had a much earlier hit that appeared on Soul Train’s 1st or 2nd year.

What is your favorite part of the Artomatic experience so far?
Getting to see many different styles and subjects that fellow artists have

Heather Miller :WhiteRose's Art is the studio of artist Heather Miller. Her mediums include mixed media, assemblage, sculpture, and occasionally digital art. She holds a BFA in digital art from George Mason University but also studied mythology and psychology at The Ohio State University.
