What medium(s) do you work in & why?
Oil paint is my favorite medium because it allows me to best convey accurate skin tone and texture.

What is your creative process like?
For my “Multi-Bodies” series, I photograph the model for the central portrait and then have them pose nude for a variety of gesture poses.

What is the best art-related advice you’ve received?
I compile the figures in Photoshop and use the image as my photo reference. I paint the central portrait life-size to convey the presence of the person.

What is the biggest challenge you face as an artist?
The best advice I received was to soften some of the edges in my paintings to make them less focused and to use hard edges to create a focal point.

What is the biggest challenge you face as an artist?
The biggest challenge I face as an artist is staying focused on one project. Before I began this series last year, I felt like I was going in five different artistic directions at once.

Choose one piece that you currently have on display at Artomatic and tell the story of that piece:

Zoë by Evan Goldman

The paintings in my Artomatic display are part of a series that began last year with my oil painting of my friend, “Sheba”, who is a figure model. In this life-sized painting she wears a black tank top and blue jeans. She stands in front of black and white nude photographs of herself. I liked the psychological aspects of combining life-sized portraiture with figure painting so much that I painted “Zoë” and “Paula” in a similar fashion. I continued to paint more portraits with a variety of models and a series emerged.

What is your favorite part of the Artomatic experience so far?
My favorite event was “Meet the Artist Night”. I enjoy Artomatic because it gives us the opportunity to express who we are as artists and as a community.
