Who are you and how long have you been an artist?
I restarted painting in 2009 with my first exhibition in 2010. I have been competing in art competitions from the age of six when I won a prize at Shankars International On-the-spot painting competition.
What medium(s) do you work in & why?
I usually work in oils because it is the medium of my inspirations – Dali, Picasso and Hussein
What is your creative process like?
Conversations trigger images in my head. For example my work “titanic glass of ice water” was the result of a conversation with my art meetup group.
What is the best art-related advice you’ve received?
Nikolay Barton, the surrealist critic advised me to stick to surrealism and simplify the story.
What is the biggest challenge you face as an artist?
Speed! I can complete a painting a day, need to slow down because it confuses the critics.
Choose one piece that you currently have on display at Artomatic and tell the story of that piece:
“titanic glass of ice water” is my latest work. My art group suggested doing a glass of ice water because it contains the hardest elements to paint. When I thought of ice and water, of course there must involve titanic. Surprisingly, it fits in perfectly with what I like to paint – “still life” with a surrealist touch. My uncle calls these works as “visual puns”. I like that description.
What is your favorite part of the Artomatic experience so far?
This is my third event with Aromatic. I enjoy the volunteering the most because it gives me an opportunity to meet and collaborate with other artists. The energy at AOM is fantastic.
