Since the 1970’s my sculpture and drawings have been based on interpretive incorporation of the human presence within the American landscape, acknowledging an artistic legacy that spans over one hundred fifty years of American aesthetics. Current work involves paintings, drawings, and works on paper, inspired by where I am and where I have been. My style has been described as both colorist and minimalist. In my art, I seek to produce a simple, subtle, and sublime presentation of the environment and atmosphere of a particular place.

I sketch bright and whimsical girl characters that are often outer-worldly. My medium is pen, colored pencil and watercolor pastel on paper. I create greeting cards for all occasions and send them to friends and family.
I was influenced by my parents, who are both artistic.

Late-emergent and self-taught visual artist Shauna Lee Lange will be conducting an active art journaling and art collaging experiment during Artomatic 2009. The work will feature assemblage, mixed-media, and a variety of marker, pencil, ink, pen and paper techniques. The theme will be "The Struggle to Become an Artist". Lange owns and operates Shauna Lee Lange Art Advisory & Design Studios (www.shaunaleelange.com), serving metropolitan DC and mid-Atlantic artists, gallerists, art organizations and cultural institutions since 2006. She is deeply passionate about vintage ephemera, collage and journaling techniques, and public art.

If you calculated how much money you spend on smoking a year it adds up really fast. If you quit smoking you could take that amount of money and buy some art!
I also focus my work on recycling. The cigarette machine is recycled, the mannequins/bull fighters are recycled (from the dumpsters in Georgetown), and my art in the cigarette machine is packaged in recycled materials. A majority of the earring parts are recycled. The only thing new in my exhibit containing Minda's art is the earring posts for my earrings, and a few clip lights.
In these times I feel the only way to be a successful artist is to make what you love, for someone you love, using the materials loved by someone else. Everyone loves that!

Nordic Landscape
Norway is a most spectacularly beautiful country, colored by the intense blues and greens of mountains, forests, fjords, waterfalls and lakes. The intensity reflects the drama of nature and weather. These three recent paintings are abstractions depicting the Norwegian countryside in bold forms and vibrant, unexpected cool colors that evoke bright light in a cold climate. They derive from deep rooted memories and observation. Carol Oman Urban’s parents were originally from Norway, and she often travels there to visit relatives and contemplate the dramatic landscape.

...I'm writing this to show that you can perform contrary actions at the same time, in one single, fresh breath; I am against action; as for continual contradiction, and affirmation too, I am neither for nor against them, and I won't explain myself because I hate common sense...

I'm a Russian born artist and graphic designer living in Washington DC.
I graduated from Moscow State Art Institute named after V. Surikov and Corcoran College of Art and Design.
The majority of my art is dedicated to vulnerability of an individual in today's technocratic society.
To deliver my ideas I'm using mixed media as well as variety of graphic and sculpture techniques.
