The paintings of freelance artist Michael Auger are unapologetically bold, colorful, and fun. They feature an assortment of characters that seem to have both a slightly off-tilter quality as well as a childlike charm. Many of his paintings also reveal surprise special effects when viewed under a blacklight. Auger's paintings are regularly exhibited at various galleries and cafes and examples can also be seen at his website: http://www.arty4ever.com

Hello, I am Serge. Welcome to my corner of the World. For 7 years I worked as US Army photographer, documenting conflicts around the globe. I am currently a student at the Art Institute of Washington. Photographing interesting subjects in my life, I strive to produce images that evoke thought and emotion. I play with color and saturation, composition and lighting to create images that are unique in my own way.

Russian artist Elena Volkhonskaia-Best recieved her art education and early inspiration from her home city of St. Petersburg. Now living in the Wash.,D.C. area, she continues to build on that influence in all her contemporary work.
"My fascination with texture navigates me through my art work. Be it extra heavy impasto style paint or mixed media metal work, I find special interest in simple things, objects of everyday life and the kaleidoscope of raw material in nature. My motto is "Revealing the hidden energy through texture"."

Tired of the current obsession with sharp imagery made popular due to modern digital cameras, I've discovered wet darkroom work and the expressiveness of crummy tools. My Holga camera forces me to walk a tightrope of tools, skills and vision, a vision mostly focused on the natural world and the beauty of the imperfect and ephemeral.

Through iridescent color, amorphic shape, and varying texture, Michele de la Menardiere uses an abstract language to explore the rich complexity of the visceral landscape. She creates to inquire into such universal themes as: mortality; beauty; loss; the spirit; conflict; harmony; loneliness; and grace. The process of painting itself is equally as important as the end result. Michele paints as a cathartic response to her constantly evolving energies and emotions. She paints to be present and to connect to something deeply essential and sublime. Through this meditative exercise, each piece becomes an authentic and passionate expression of existing in the moment.

My artwork is the creative outpouring of my spiritual values. The internal property of my art serves as a glorification of the beautiful mystery of the human spirit. My artwork maintains a position of non-conformity to cultural and artistic trends. My true understanding is that, apart from the influences that we receive from this natural world, we are continuously harboring the influences we take n from the spiritual world. The purpose of artistic expressions are to translate these messages, ideas, and feelings we gain from the experiences of these dual worlds – artistic expressions that must be freed from all conformities, so that they may stand alone to translate in their purest form. For we truly unleash what we have taken in when we express without conformity.
