The Feldenkrais Method: Find more of the ground under your feet.

April 22, 2017 @ 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Opening creative channels with the Feldenkrais Method

Is creativity a magical power possessed only by musicians, painters, dancers and other “artists”? Or is it an innate human quality that we all possess, a rich resource that can improve anyone’s life, regardless of age, profession or any other circumstance? If it is, in fact, a universal quality, then why do we so often define people, including ourselves, as being “more” or “less” creative? What can we do to open up our creative channels?

The Feldenkrais Method® is a unique approach to human development that uses a combination of movement and directed attention to create transformational change. Each weekend at Artomatic, Seth Dellinger, a Guild Certified Feldenkrais practitioner, will offer a special Awareness Through Movement class designed to help you free up your movement as well as your thinking.

Each class will involve gentle and novel movement explorations where there is no one “correct” way of doing things, helping you to uncover self-defeating habitual patterns of movement and thinking in order to renew your possibilities. As Moshe Feldenkrais famously said, “When you know what you’re doing, you can do what you want!”

All classes will involve lying on the floor, so please bring a mat or exercise blanket if you will need it rest comfortably. No special clothing is required so long as it is comfortable and loose-fitting.

Sat 4/22 – Find more of the ground under your feet . . .

How did the human species survive before shoes and paved sidewalks? With flexible feet and creative spontaneity! Rediscover the souls of your feet to let the world carry you on its shoulders (not the other way around!) . . .

Sun 4/30 – When movement becomes prayer . . .

How do you move when your intention is to connect to a power larger than what you can see? How does it affect the quality of prayer when you become acutely aware of the physical experience of your body in the midst of divine communication?
