Sat May 17 - 4:00pm-6:00pm
Education Room

The workshop is intended for people, who never tried watercolor before, but are intrigued by it or for people, who tried it already in a more traditional way (think 18th century England dainty watercolor landscapes) and feel somewhat discouraged by the medium. The goal of the workshop is to show watercolor as an expressive and free-style medium that can make the art creation process exciting and vibrant. While performing a live painting demonstration, the artist will discuss watercolor painting supplies (paints, brushes, paper), painting techniques (glazing and mingling color), color theory (color mixing to avoid mud), and many other tricks to make it work. The workshop is between an hour to 1-1/2 hours long and involves a live painting demonstration as well as discussion of techniques, materials, painting tricks, etc. I have had kids age 8-10 attend it before and it kept their interest, but it is really geared towards a beginner adult painter or an intimidated watercolorist, since I am showing a very spontaneuos and expressive painting style while providing a lot of useful technical information. Anna Glodek 240-683-0311 Artist statement: I paint figure and flower compositions in watercolor and oil that fit somewhere between realism and abstraction. I am fascinated with color, texture and movement. Watercolor allows me to be contemplative, yet playful and expressive at the same time. I like the softness and quietness of building an image with transparent veils of color, especially in painting human form or delicate flower elements, however I fully embrace the random patterns created by the flowing paint to add a sense of vibrancy and motion to the image. My floral paintings tend to be imaginary, spontaneous, urgent, bursting with color. When I look at flowers, I see a dance of petals and leaves folding into each other, opening and closing, coming together or pulling away. My figures are usually a study of a single pose, painted from a live model. I start with abstract shapes and weave the human form into the painting. The surface of my oils has a lot of texture due to thick application of paint and multiple layers of paint. I like using a palette knife to move the paint around.
