You might have a bit of deja vu as you read the site this week. Here's why:

The hosting company that runs www.artomatic.org had a serious hard drive crash last Thursday, May 24. When they tried to restore, they discovered that our backups were broken. Our only backup was a snapshot we took April 11 -- just before opening day. Six weeks of records of the event -- artist catalog, volunteering, picks, event calendar -- are lost.

Obviously, this is a huge blow. I hope you'll take the time to re-upload any images or files we've lost; please accept Artomatic's apology -- as well as mine, personally, as webmaster -- for the trouble. Know that we'll do what we can to restore anything we can find; you can keep track of progress by reading the discussion at artdc.org.

Meanwhile, deinstallation continues; 7 days a week, 12 noon to 10pm, at 2121 Crystal Drive.

If you haven't subscribed to the mailing list, do so. We'll send news, and anything you can do to help, as soon as we figure it out.

(UPDATE 5.29 2:00PM: We've started an update log of what's fixed and what's still broken.)

Frank Warren, a participant in Artomatic 2004, named by Forbes.com as one of 25 WebCelebs – which they claim is “a list of the biggest, brightest and most influential people on the Internet.” At Artomatic, Frank provided postcards, asking for secrets which he then posted. Those postings later became the best-selling hardback Postsecrets. And he still passes out postcards. See? Artomatic participation really pays off.
