Digital Photographs and Custom computer program
6' x 6'
2008
This year, I wanted to try something different by mixing up my newfound interest in photography with my fascination with installations and love of self-reference and tying it all together with some custom computer programming.
I decided to write my own program to merge two self-portraits into a mosaic - one large, "angry" me would be composed of 8100 much smaller, happier "me"'s.
Writing code to help me generate a self-portrait struck a chord with me because, besides art, computers have been a huge part of who I am - I learned to program and was online by age 9 (20 years ago).
The resulting image is a 6'x6' black and white mosaic photograph printed and framed in 9 sections. The default partition was built out into a large, curtained shadow box with red interior "mood lighting" (used instead of coloring the image itself)
