I’m often drawn to basic, somewhat natural forms: eggs, paper, stones, marble. I look for objects that are non-specific and have a quality of anonymity to them. My still lifes are not literal recordings of nature or the world around me. These works are private meditations, intimate studio paintings. Deliberate and obsessive exercises, they often carry on in a series. These subjects are returned to, to be reworked or reiterated. I try to create pieces that are expressive and reluctant, silent yet certain, and in between I discover tension.
