My mixed-media work combines elements and techniques from furniture craft, painting, architecture, and sculpture. While much of my work has a foundation in the applied arts, the goal is to use these techniques to express more abstract ideas and explore the relationships between process and product. There is a focus on surface handling, gestural marks, and a deliberate sense of physicality. By creating a very tactile experience, I hope to engage the audience with the materials and process of creation. This attention to the detailed expression of materials and process, combined with an aesthetic study of the construction, and eventual decay, of our every-day built environment, is the conceptual focus my current work.
