I work in waves: both electromagnetic and acoustic.
This set of pieces explores the smooth transition zones between pitch and its slower sibling, rhythm. Frequencies are real and measurable -- the dividing line between tones and beats exists only between the ears of the audience.
All of these pieces are built around feedback loops that incorporate the viewer/listener into the work. In some works the audience's involvement is obvious, even solicited. (Art is meaningless without its audience, right? These pieces wear that interdependence on their sleeves.) Other times, the observer is an unknowing participant.
Some of the work is robotic, while some is simply electronic. Some bits could have been more easily realized using heavy-duty computers, but how much fun is that? Instead, the formula is an economy of algorithms plus a richness of inputs, with the result drifting between chaos and coherence, pitch and rhythm.
Enjoy.
