Nordic Landscape
Norway is a most spectacularly beautiful country, colored by the intense blues and greens of mountains, forests, fjords, waterfalls and lakes. The intensity reflects the drama of nature and weather. These three recent paintings are abstractions depicting the Norwegian countryside in bold forms and vibrant, unexpected cool colors that evoke bright light in a cold climate. They derive from deep rooted memories and observation. Carol Oman Urban’s parents were originally from Norway, and she often travels there to visit relatives and contemplate the dramatic landscape.

This cow is one of the four Nordic Farmstead Denizens whose portraits are in the show. When not posing, they inhabit the high pastures in Norway during summer. She shows her nature by placidly glanceing out of the canvas.

One of the Nordic Farmstead Denizens, this sheep took time off from grazing the high mountain pastures to pose for her portrait -- gazing humorously out the canvas.

The Portrait of a Goat is one of a series of Nordic Farmstead Denizens who graze the Norwegian high summer pastures -- each showing its own special personality peering out of the canvas. Clearly this goat is not *Billy Goat Gruff.*

The Portrait of a Fjord Horse is one of a series of paintings of farm animals that graze the high mountain summer pastures in Norway. Like a human portrait, each shows the nature of the animal -- in this case, a sturdy, reliable, friendly Norwegian Fjord Horse.
